The Pilot Episode: A Special Beginning
The 1996 pilot of the 243-episode series, "7th Heaven," aired 27 years ago on the WB TV network. It introduced the Camden family, with Watson portraying eldest son Matt Camden and Mitchell as his sister Lucy Camden. Watson describes the pilot as a special moment. "I think to me, the pilot episode was probably quite unique. And then as each episode followed, it all just blended together. It became one long, continuous story," he says.
Hicks, too, cherishes the group's immediate bond. "When you do a show and have the pilot, and then realize it might be something special, it's an exciting feeling," she shares.
Mitchell adds, "We were really lucky. On our set, we all got along, liked each other, and had mutual respect. There was no competition among us. It was a very comfortable environment for guest stars to join."
Notable Guest Appearances
The series drew in some truly remarkable guest stars throughout its run. Hicks mentions, "We had amazing guest stars like movie stars from different eras - from the '40s, '50s, and '60s, as well as current stars like Pat Boone, Phyllis Diller, and Richard Lewis."
These guest appearances added an extra layer of excitement to the show and made it even more memorable.
The Next Generation's Connection
Watson reveals that the series has reached the next generation - his own children. "My 16-year-old son Felix decided to binge watch every season, and he did it in just a couple of weeks. He kept watching! But my oldest son thought it was a bit cheesy," he says with a smile.
This shows the lasting impact of the series and how it has touched different generations.
