2024-11-06
In a remarkable display of cultural diplomacy, American country music artist and U.S. Global Music Ambassador BRELAND is set to represent the United States at a prestigious G20-sponsored cultural summit in Brazil. This week-long event in Salvador, Brazil, will showcase the power of music to foster cross-cultural connections and advocate for diversity and inclusion in the creative economy.

Amplifying Diverse Voices on the Global Stage

Representing the United States at the G20 Cultural Ministerial

BRELAND, the New Jersey-born recording artist celebrated for his innovative blend of country, hip-hop, and gospel influences, will be in Salvador, Brazil, until Friday to represent the United States at the Salvador Capital Afro, an official side event of the G20 Cultural Ministerial. This event marks a significant milestone, as it coincides with the 200th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States and Brazil.

Empowering Black Artists and Entrepreneurial Communities

During his time in Brazil, BRELAND will participate in a panel discussion titled "Music for Diplomacy and Inclusion," hosted by the U.S. Embassy in Brazil, YouTube, and the Salvador Municipal Secretariat of Culture and Tourism. This panel aims to highlight the opportunities to empower Black artists and entrepreneurial communities, underscoring the impact of culture in local, regional, and global creative economies.

Fostering Cross-Cultural Connections through Music

Joining BRELAND on the panel will be Scott Weinhold, the principal deputy assistant secretary for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, who is traveling to the G20 as a senior U.S. official. The panel will also feature Brazilian musical artist Majur and Tuma Basa, the head of Black culture and Black music at YouTube.

Building on the Legacy of U.S. Jazz Ambassadors

BRELAND's role as a U.S. Global Music Ambassador is part of a broader initiative launched earlier this year by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Lyor Cohen, the global head of music at Google and YouTube. This program aims to build on the legacy of the iconic U.S. Jazz Ambassadors of the 1950s and 1960s, using music to bring people together and promote peace worldwide on behalf of the American people.

Leveraging the Power of Music for Diplomacy and Inclusion

As a U.S. Global Music Ambassador, BRELAND works to leverage his platform to foster cross-cultural connections and advocate for diversity and inclusion in the creative economy. This latest endeavor in Brazil is a testament to the power of music to transcend borders and bring people together, showcasing the United States' commitment to cultural diplomacy and the promotion of inclusive creative industries.

Celebrating BRELAND's Diverse Musical Influences

Born Daniel Gerard Breland, the 29-year-old artist has gained popularity with his RIAA-certified 2X Platinum song "My Truck," and has collaborated with a diverse array of artists, including Keith Urban, Nelly, X Ambassadors, and Thomas Rhett. His unique blend of country, hip-hop, and gospel influences has earned him critical acclaim and a growing global fanbase.

Empowering Global Audiences through Music

Earlier this year, BRELAND joined other U.S. Global Music Ambassadors, such as Jelly Roll and Teddy Swims, in South Korea to kick-off their public service debut. This initiative aims to engage a global audience through music, leveraging the power of music to bring people together and promote cultural exchange.
