Bruce Willis' Look Who's Talking Sequel: A Potential Disaster in the Making
2024-12-17
Because of the global success of Die Hard early in his career, Bruce Willis became renowned for action. However, many casual fans tend to overlook his comedic prowess during his prime. Take Moonlighting fans, for instance; they were overjoyed when the classic detective comedy series made its way to streaming. Willis' first feature film was the Blake Edwards screwball comedy Blind Date. He also lent his voice to a baby in two Look Who’s Talking movies in the 1980s, although these weren't his best works. This leads to doubts about director Amy Heckerling potentially making another one.
An Enthusiastic Bruce Willis Fan
I am an ardent Bruce Willis fan and have even written a whole book celebrating his versatility in movies. He is unjustly pigeonholed as an action star, but his talent extends far beyond that. In the Look Who’s Talking movies, his comedic timing as Mikey added to the charm. Speaking with Empire Magazine, original director Amy Heckerling teased a possible fourth movie, stating that she was actively working on a script set in the series. The Look Who’s Talking Franchise
The Look Who’s Talking franchise was one of the more controversial series of the late 80s and early 90s. After the first movie, the concept seemed to have run its course. The studio hastily produced a second movie without a proper idea or script, adding Roseanne Barr as the voice of Mikey's half-sister, Julie, and Damon Wayans as a baby, along with Mel Brooks voicing Mr. Toilet Man. These additions didn't enhance the series but rather raised questions. The highlight of the movies was Willis' exceptional comedic timing with his line readings as the toddler, Mikey. We all know that Willis is retired from acting due to battling FTD that directly affects his speech. There is no way he would be involved in making another movie, and attempting to do so without him is an act of insensitivity. It is a huge mistake.I am hoping that Amy Heckerling's Look Who’s Talking revival stalls in the development stage. There are numerous other properties that deserve a creative person like Heckerling's time and energy, and I don't want to see this series continue without Willis. It would be a crime. We'll have to wait and see what the future holds, but I hope in a year we'll be discussing something completely different for all involved.
