The Ohio Cattlemen’s Association (OCA) is set to co-host an exciting community service event, the Celebrity Showdown, alongside the Clark County Cattle Battle. Scheduled for Friday, January 24, 2025, at 6 p.m., this fundraiser will take place at the Champion’s Center in Springfield, Ohio. The proceeds from the event will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Central Ohio. Notably, Larry Lokai, known as the Buckeyeman, will serve as the celebrity judge. This event combines entertainment with a noble cause, offering participants a unique opportunity to showcase their creativity and generosity.
Larry Lokai, affectionately called the Buckeyeman, has been a beloved figure since 1998. Initially an adjunct professor in the animal sciences department, Lokai gained national recognition for his distinctive appearance and unwavering support for Ohio State University's sports teams. His iconic look includes vibrant red and gray face paint, a striking wig, and multiple buckeye necklaces. Lokai continually updates his appearance to reflect the latest achievements of the Buckeye team, ensuring his image remains fresh and engaging. His dedication was honored when he received the NCAA Fan of the Year award in 2015 at the "What a Fan Awards."
Participants in the OCA’s Beef Exhibitor Show Total (BEST) youth development program will have the chance to design elaborate costumes for their cattle and present them before the Buckeyeman. Each exhibitor must raise a minimum of $100 to participate, encouraging active community involvement. Donations can be made online via a form on the OCA’s website, attributing contributions to individual BEST participants. Incentive prizes await the top fundraisers at the BEST program’s awards banquet on May 3, 2025. Additionally, a live auction will follow the Celebrity Showdown on January 24, further boosting fundraising efforts for RMHC.
This collaborative effort promises an evening filled with fun and philanthropy. By combining the enthusiasm of the Buckeyeman with the creative spirit of the BEST exhibitors, the event aims to make a significant impact on the lives of those supported by the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Participants and attendees alike are encouraged to contribute generously, ensuring the success of this charitable initiative.
