The Christmas Sacrifices of Jason and Travis Kelce's Father
2024-12-20
Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce have always held dear the memories of their father Ed Kelce's efforts to make their childhood Christmases special. In a recent episode of New Heights on Wondery+, they opened up about those early days before their fame, when their dad would take on extra work to ensure a joyful holiday season.

The Search for Santa's Gifts

During the episode, a caller named "Squirrel" asked if the brothers, Jason (37) and Travis (35), had ever snooped around the house to find where "Santa" hid the gifts. Before answering, Travis, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, advised those under 12 not to listen to prevent them from learning the truth about Santa being a parent. The brothers admitted to finding gifts around the house before Christmas, with Jason saying Travis was usually the one to make the discoveries. Travis said, "Me and Jason both knew where Santa was hiding those presents," to which Jason added, "No we did not. I did not find out 'till later when you convinced me."

The Second Job at the Candy Store

Moving on, the retired Philadelphia Eagles center, Jason, revealed that their dad used to take a second job around the holidays at a candy store. "See's [Candies]," they said simultaneously. Travis remembered the peanut brittle that would "get stuck in your teeth for decades." Jason explained that their dad took this second job to buy gifts for them as he needed more money during the holidays to get the presents they were asking for. He continued, "Travis and I were really into the Xbox one year. We wanted the new one, and we decided to go up into the attic and search around and ended up finding it. We agreed we're gonna act surprised on Christmas Day."

The Mother's Revelation

However, their plan didn't go as planned. On Christmas Day, when they opened the gift and acted surprised (or so they thought), their mother, Donna Kelce, came into the room and said, "You know, your father takes a second job around the holidays just to see the look on your guys' face when you open the gifts." Jason said they were sad for about 15 seconds but then went back to playing Xbox. This incident had a lasting impact on Jason, as he admitted, "It was enough of a guilt trip that I never looked again. And I will never look again. It hit me, but I was still trying to play Xbox."
