Details of the Demolition

In the charming yet bustling streets of Wilmington, a historically significant building on Market Street met its fate after decades of service. Constructed in 1920, this edifice initially served as The Manor movie theater before evolving into several popular live music venues over the years. By 2017, the last operating establishment, Blue Eyed Muse, had closed its doors. County inspectors confirmed that the building was unsafe due to multiple defects and violations, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire, and building code requirements. In June 2023, it was officially deemed unsafe for occupancy.

HKS Construction was hired by the building owner, Joseph Hou, to renovate and restore the property. However, during the renovation process, contractors encountered unforeseen challenges. Improper shoring up of walls led to increased instability, resulting in substantial damage. Despite initial intentions to preserve the exterior, the walls eventually needed to be demolished due to structural unsoundness. Joseph Hou plans to transform the site into a two-story apartment complex, but no detailed site plans have been submitted as of now.
