In a significant move to nurture emerging talent, Disney Entertainment Television (DET) has revealed its latest participants for the prestigious Directing and Writing Programs. These initiatives aim to provide aspiring directors and writers with unparalleled opportunities within DET's diverse television portfolio. The selected individuals will have the chance to work on both scripted and unscripted series, gaining invaluable experience and mentorship from industry leaders. This year's cohort showcases exceptional creative vision and bold storytelling, setting the stage for shaping the future of television.

Expanding Opportunities in Scripted and Unscripted Series

In the heart of the entertainment world, DET has introduced an array of new projects for the 2024-2025 Directing Program. Emerging directors will now have the opportunity to direct episodes of popular shows such as 9-1-1, American Idol, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and Project Runway. Additional directing opportunities span across The Chi, Dancing with the Stars, General Hospital, and The Rookie. The program offers a one-year immersive experience, including professional mentorship, on-set shadowing, and access to Disney's top-tier creative executives.

The 2024-2025 scripted directing cohort includes Karla Braun, Shawn Pipkin-West, Sarah Smith, Kate Sullivan, Ashley Williams, and Kelly Yu. For unscripted series, Jaclyn Amor, Ana Breton, Dara DiGerolamo, Tiana Gandelman, and Roger Melvin join the ranks. Notable alumni of the program include Pete Chatmon, Ryan Coogler, Regina King, and Hannah Fidell, who have gone on to make significant contributions to the industry.

Concurrently, the Writing Program continues its legacy of over 35 years by launching aspiring writers into successful careers. Participants engage in advanced workshops, refine their portfolios, and connect with industry professionals. Each writer is contracted for a year with competitive compensation and benefits. The 2025 cohort features Monib Abhat, Mike Carreon, Jason Cho, Neda Davarpanah, Fatima Eldigair, Ananya Hegde, Andrina Smith, and Alie Turfe. Fatima Eldigair also received the FX Singleton Scholar award, honoring John Singleton's legacy with special mentoring and staffing considerations.

From a journalist's perspective, this initiative underscores DET's commitment to fostering diversity and innovation in storytelling. By providing a platform for emerging talent, DET not only enriches its own content but also contributes to the broader evolution of television. The success stories of past participants highlight the transformative impact these programs can have on careers and the industry at large. As we anticipate the debut of episodes directed by this year's cohort, it's clear that DET is paving the way for a new generation of creators to shine.
