Eye Infection and Its Impact

Back in November, John had mentioned to "Good Morning America" that he was unsure if he could return to the studio due to his eye issue. A July eye infection had left him unable to see out of his right eye for the past four months. At that time, he expressed his frustration, saying, "It kind of floored me. I can't see anything. I can't read anything, I can't watch anything." But on Colbert's show, he revealed that he still has problems with his eyes. However, he also emphasized that compared to most people, he considers himself the luckiest man in the world.

These setbacks have not dampened his spirit, and he continues to look forward to creating more music. His determination and passion for his craft are truly inspiring.

EGOT Winner and His Achievements

Earlier this year, John won an Emmy for "Elton John: Farewell From Dodger Stadium", adding another prestigious honor to his collection of five Grammy Awards, two Academy Awards, and a Tony Award. Reflecting on this achievement, he shared, "Becoming an EGOT meant so much to me because the American public has given so much to me throughout my career." He also listed the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize as the honor he is most proud of, as it recognized him for his songwriting. "To be in the Library of Congress is unbelievable. What a place."

His success is a testament to his talent and hard work, and he continues to inspire generations with his music.

Advice to His Younger Self

When asked what advice he would give his younger self, John was honest. He said, "Slow down a bit. I would have said to the guy, 'Listen, stay away from the cocaine, for God's sake.' It's no good. I've got a very small nose. It had a real battering, this nose. And I wasted so much of my life doing the most stupid things and then I got sober and I made amends for it and I got a new life together and it was fantastic."

His words serve as a reminder of the importance of making wise choices and learning from one's mistakes.
