2025-04-29

This summer, cinephiles in New York are in for a treat as Netflix transforms the city into a celebration of Alfred Hitchcock’s cinematic legacy. At the heart of this event lies an extensive film series titled "HITCH! The Original Cinema Influencer," which will showcase 36 films by the legendary director alongside over a dozen additional features that reflect his profound influence on cinema. Running from May 16 to June 29 at the Paris Theater, the program offers a rare opportunity to experience both early and iconic works of the master filmmaker.

Highlighting the breadth of Hitchcock's career, the series presents a diverse selection ranging from his pioneering efforts like Blackmail to timeless classics such as Psycho and The Birds. Thirty-five of these films will be screened in their original 35mm format, offering audiences an authentic viewing experience. Notable titles include Rear Window, Vertigo, and North By Northwest, co-presented by the New York Film Critics Circle. Additionally, the lineup includes films that have inspired or been inspired by Hitchcock, such as Fritz Lang’s M and Robert Zemeckis’s What Lies Beneath.

As the screening series unfolds, it coincides with Netflix adding a collection of Hitchcock titles to its streaming service starting June 1. This initiative aims to draw connections between the horror pioneer and contemporary filmmakers like Jordan Peele and Zach Cregger, featuring modern works such as Us and Barbarian. Through this curated selection, the event not only honors Hitchcock’s enduring impact but also fosters an appreciation for how his artistry continues to shape modern storytelling, proving that great art transcends time and inspires future generations.
