2025-02-20

This Sunday, music enthusiasts in Port Townsend will be treated to an enchanting afternoon of Baroque masterpieces. The event, titled "The Chaconne with Les Voix Humaines," will take place at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Attendees are encouraged to contribute a donation ranging from $20 to $30 per person to support this cultural experience.

The performance will highlight the chaconne, a musical form that flourished during the reign of Louis XIV. Audiences can look forward to renditions of works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann. Les Voix Humaines, a renowned duo from Montreal specializing in viol instruments, will collaborate with harpsichordist Elisabeth Wright and festival director Jeffrey Cohan on period-appropriate flutes. Together, they will present a diverse program featuring both original compositions and transcriptions adapted for this unique ensemble.

Music has the power to transcend time, connecting us to the past while enriching our present. This concert offers a rare opportunity to immerse oneself in the elegance and complexity of Baroque music. By celebrating these timeless compositions, we honor the legacy of great composers and musicians who have shaped the world of classical music. Such events not only entertain but also educate, fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts and encouraging future generations to explore and preserve this rich heritage.
