Brewer, Maine, has unveiled a new musical addition to its picturesque Riverwalk, offering residents and visitors alike a unique interactive experience. The city's officials recently cut the ribbon on the Cool Tones on the Riverwalk, a music park featuring a collection of standalone instruments that can be played with provided mallets or by hand. This innovative project aims to enhance the Riverwalk's appeal and provide engaging activities for all ages.

Harmonizing Community and History on the Riverfront

Bringing Rhythm to the Riverwalk

The Cool Tones on the Riverwalk is a captivating addition to Brewer's scenic riverfront. The music park features a diverse array of standalone instruments, inviting visitors to explore their musical talents and create harmonious melodies. Whether using the provided mallets or simply tapping the instruments with their hands, visitors can immerse themselves in the rhythmic experience, adding a lively and engaging element to the Riverwalk. The project is the result of a generous donation from Doug Farnham, the former owner of the iconic Getchell Brothers Ice company. For decades, the ice company had been a fixture along the river, and Farnham wanted to ensure that the cool history of the area remained. "As Getchell Brothers, when we sold the company that had spent more than 75 years along the river producing ice, we wanted to kind of do something to give back to the community that had been such a great host," Farnham explains. "As well as recognize and remind folks that there were a lot of wonderful people that participated in the ice industry and the ice business, along with the ice harvesting that took place on the river."

Preserving the Ice Industry's Legacy

The Cool Tones on the Riverwalk is not just a musical attraction; it's a tribute to the rich history of the ice industry that once thrived along the riverfront. Farnham's vision extends beyond the current music park, as he reveals that a bronze relief sculpture is planned for next summer to further cement the ice industry's presence and legacy on the river. The addition of the Cool Tones on the Riverwalk is part of Brewer's ongoing efforts to beautify the Riverwalk and provide more interactive activities for residents and visitors of all ages. By incorporating this musical element, the city aims to create a more vibrant and engaging riverfront experience, encouraging people to explore, play, and connect with the area's rich history.

A Harmonious Future for the Riverwalk

As the Cool Tones on the Riverwalk continues to captivate the community, the city has plans to further enhance the experience. Farnham's vision of a bronze relief sculpture is just the beginning, as the music park is expected to receive even more additions in the years to come. The integration of the Cool Tones on the Riverwalk represents Brewer's commitment to creating a dynamic and multifaceted riverfront destination. By blending the city's history with interactive musical elements, the Riverwalk is poised to become an even more alluring and engaging hub for residents and visitors alike. As the rhythmic sounds of the Cool Tones echo along the riverbanks, Brewer's Riverwalk is set to hit a high note, harmonizing community and history in a truly unique and captivating way.
