Jonathan Lamb's Firing from Daystar Television Network
2024-11-22
Jonathan Lamb, the son of Daystar Television Network co-founders Marcus and Joni Lamb, found himself at the center of a significant event last week. The global Christian television network based in Bedford made the decision to part ways with him.

Unraveling the Story behind Jonathan Lamb's Departure from Daystar

Initial Circumstances

In a Thursday interview, Lamb revealed that Daystar had a "submission culture." He was removed from the network's board and his vice president role in 2023 due to his unwillingness to sign a nondisclosure agreement. This led to him being placed on a performance improvement plan in April of this year. He was then put in charge of the network's cafe, facilities, and distribution departments. However, Lamb claimed that this was a form of punishment for not agreeing to the demands. 1: The performance improvement plan included several points. One of them pertained to social media, stating that Lamb should refrain from posting certain comments without obtaining written approval. Another point concerned his religious objections to his mother's 2023 marriage to Doug Weiss. Lamb said that this rift with his mother grew because of these objections. 2: The Christian Post reported in May that Weiss filed for divorce from his previous wife two months after Marcus Lamb's death. Daystar, which has over 100 television stations in the US and is on "nearly every major cable and satellite provider across the globe," is registered as a church and adheres to a statement of faith on its website. It airs shows by major evangelical pastors.

Termination and Statements

When reached for comment on Lamb's termination on Thursday, Daystar shared an emailed statement. It stated that Lamb was no longer a part of the network following his repeated failure to comply with the expired performance improvement plan. Lamb was also engaged in a smear campaign using false allegations against Daystar and its leadership. 1: Marcus and Joni Lamb co-founded Daystar in the 1990s. Marcus Lamb served as CEO until his death in November 2021, and Joni Lamb is currently the president and CEO. Jonathan Lamb was fired in a termination letter sent on Nov. 16, which highlighted the confidentiality agreement he signed when he joined. It also stated that he would be subject to defamation laws if he made "untrue or misleading statements" about Daystar or its leaders. 2: Both Lamb and Daystar shared copies of the performance improvement plan and the termination letter with The Dallas Morning News. This incident has drawn significant attention and sparked various discussions within the religious and media communities.
