The opening weekend, October 19-20, will feature Tchaikovsky's beloved Fourth Symphony, a work that was also recently performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The program will also showcase the ever-popular Rodrigo Concerto de Aranjuez, with the renowned guitarist Pablo Sáinz-Villegas taking center stage as the soloist. Adding to the Tchaikovsky-inspired theme, the Symphony will present "Homage to Tchaikovsky," a commissioned work by the late local composer Emma Lou Diemer, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 96. Diemer, a celebrated and prolific figure in the Santa Barbara music scene, was known for her masterful compositions and her contributions as an organist.As the Symphony's season progresses, audiences can look forward to a diverse array of programs, each with its own distinct character. From the "French Connection" in November to the "Mozart Marathon" in January, the Symphony's carefully curated offerings cater to a wide range of musical tastes. The Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra will return in November, followed by a welcome repeat visit from the London Symphony Orchestra in February. In April, the Chineke! Orchestra, a trailblazing ensemble that champions diversity and inclusion in classical music, will take the stage. The season culminates in a grand finale with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, led by renowned conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and featuring the virtuosic pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard. This performance promises to be a true highlight, showcasing the works of French masters Boulez and Debussy.
