Young Couple's Wedding Plans Shattered by Brain Cancer Diagnosis (Exclusive)
2024-12-13
In the heart of Los Angeles, Trevor Dering, the renowned musician Fiji Blue, and Natasha's love story began in high school. Their lives were filled with dreams and plans - Trevor with his upcoming tour and debut album on December 13, and Natasha chasing her dream of becoming a physician assistant. They eagerly awaited their June wedding, counting down the months with excitement.

Unexpected Seizure and Diagnosis

However, fate took a turn in February when Natasha had a seizure during a trip to Mexico. Back home, she underwent numerous tests, and the doctors discovered a mass in her brain. At first, they suspected it was an MS-related tumor, but as time passed, it became clear that it was brain cancer. The months that followed were filled with biopsies, surgeries, and uncertainty. Trevor, by her side, tried to stay strong, but it was a terrifying time.

As the words "tumor" and "cancer" became more frequent, the couple faced a dark chapter. But they held on together, determined to face the challenges head-on.

Trevor recalls, "It was a really tough time. We didn't know the grade or specifics of the cancer for about seven months, and that added to the anxiety. But we knew we had to support each other through it all."

Choosing to Share on Social Media

Months later, Trevor and Natasha made a brave decision to open up about Natasha's diagnosis on social media. Their videos went viral, amassing millions of views. Trevor shared, "She's the center of my world. Sharing the news was heartbreaking in one way, but it also felt relieving to have people support us."

During their first hospital visit, which lasted five days, Trevor witnessed Natasha's pain. To bring some joy, he brought a speaker and they practiced their first dance. The video, posted on TikTok, received over 760,000 views, becoming a source of comfort during a difficult time.

Trevor adds, "It was a great distraction for both of us. Just for a moment, we could forget about the worries and focus on something beautiful."

The Wedding Amidst Cancer

On June 15, despite Natasha's diagnosis, the couple followed through with their wedding plans. They tied the knot in front of 50 of their closest family and friends at a barn in Maine, a venue they had always dreamed of. The celebration was filled with lobster rolls and Maine-inspired delicacies.

During the wedding, Trevor performed a song for Natasha called "Beautiful" from his debut album. The video, posted on TikTok, was seen by nearly 600,000 people. It was a day filled with both joy and sadness.

One user commented, "Fight like hell beautiful girl! This man is fighting with you! Prayers for health and healing." Another said, "Aww man. You crushed my heart. Your wife has so much life in her eyes. She's going to make it."

Recovery and Future Plans

In September, Natasha underwent brain surgery to remove the tumor. Doctors were able to remove 80% to 90% of the mass, and she was diagnosed with a grade 2 astrocytoma. Although it is a slow-growing tumor, the recovery process has been challenging.

Trevor has been by Natasha's side throughout, postponing his tour to be with her. Doctors plan to treat her with targeted therapy instead of chemotherapy and radiation.

Looking ahead, Trevor is hopeful. He says, "It's been a long journey, but seeing her slowly getting better is amazing. The prognosis is better than we expected, and we're taking each day one step at a time. I just want her to live the longest life possible, and I'll be there with her every step of the way."
