An educational and cultural expedition to China became a remarkable experience for students and professors from the University of Indianapolis. This journey, which took place during the spring break, was an invitation-only event hosted by Huzhou Vocational and Technical College in Zhejiang Province. The delegation, consisting of 19 participants led by Dr. Kristine Newton and Dr. James Willis, explored the vibrant city of Huzhou, known for its proximity to Lake Tai and its strategic location near Shanghai. During their stay, they participated in immersive activities that highlighted the rich tapestry of Chinese culture.

Beyond sightseeing, the group engaged in various traditional practices, enhancing their understanding of Chinese heritage. Activities included experiencing the artistry of Chinese opera and lion dance performances, learning about tea ceremonies and calligraphy, as well as participating in Mandarin language lessons. They also tried their hand at silk painting, tai chi, pottery creation, and enjoyed local delicacies such as hotpot. Additionally, the group had the chance to visit historical landmarks like the ancient town of Nanxun, where they were filmed by a local news crew. This coverage eventually aired on CCTV, reaching a global audience of over a billion viewers.

This trip underscored the importance of international education and cultural exchange in fostering mutual understanding between nations. Dr. Newton expressed pride in her group's role as ambassadors representing their university on an international platform.
