Exploring Utah Through the Lens of Cinema
2025-03-20

A new initiative has been unveiled to celebrate and guide movie enthusiasts through the cinematic landscapes of Utah. The Utah Film Trail, a collaborative project between the Utah Film Commission and the Utah Office of Tourism, invites visitors to explore iconic locations where beloved films were brought to life. This trail features a series of physical markers spread across the state, from Brigham City to Monument Valley, offering an immersive experience for both tourists and film buffs.

These carefully designed markers provide intriguing details about each film site, enhancing the visitor's journey. Created by Salt Lake City-based Studio LP and fabricated by Element Shop Works, these metal signs not only display the names of movies filmed there but also include QR codes linking to further online resources. A unique feature allows visitors to peer through the markers, imagining how these natural wonders appear on the silver screen. Among the 21 marked locations are spots like Dead Horse Point State Park, immortalized in "Thelma & Louise," and Goblin Valley State Park, featured in "Galaxy Quest."

Embarking on the Utah Film Trail is more than just sightseeing; it’s about connecting with the magic of cinema. By highlighting places such as Zion Canyon Village and Bryce Canyon National Park, this project underscores the profound impact that Utah’s breathtaking scenery has had on global filmmaking over the past century. Such initiatives encourage cultural appreciation, foster a deeper understanding of artistry behind movies, and promote tourism while preserving local heritage. Through this endeavor, everyone can become part of the story, experiencing firsthand the allure that inspired directors and actors alike.
