First Contestant to Walk Away from the Jungle: GK Barry in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
2024-11-21
In the highly anticipated I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! series, a significant event unfolded as GK Barry emerged as a potential first contestant to leave the jungle. The YouTube sensation and BBC Radio 1 presenter Dean McCullough faced a challenging Bushtucker trial on the ITV show on Wednesday night.

Unprecedented Exit Possibility in the Jungle

Initial Public Vote and Challenges

The pair, GK Barry (real name Grace Keeling) and Dean McCullough, were voted by the British public to take on the Drown in the Dumps trial. The 25-year-old podcast star and the 32-year-old radio presenter had to confront their fears as GK was submerged in a large tank. Unfortunately, they failed to earn a single star and returned to the camp empty-handed.This wasn't the first time such a situation occurred. In the history of the show, there have been 23 celebrities who have given up before facing the dreaded vote-off. For instance, Danniella Westbrook in Season 2 and Spencer Matthews in Season 19 quickly exited. It's not uncommon for a season to have a malnourished star quitting after a few weeks or, in Spencer Matthews' case, just three days. It seems to be a sort of jungle rite of passage.Edward Coram James, the Go Up PR expert, suggested that the podcaster could be the first to leave the camp. Speaking exclusively to Express Online, he said, "In the history of the show, I've counted twenty-three celebrities who have thrown in the towel before facing the dreaded vote-off. Remember Danniella Westbrook back in Season 2? Oh, and who could forget Spencer Matthews’ swift exit in Season 19?"

TikTok Star's First Trial and Performance

GK Barry was the first celebrity to be voted by the public to take on the 2024 series' first Bushtucker Trial. In the Monday (November 18) edition of the show, she had to endure Vile Volcano, crawling around underground tunnels filled with creepy crawlies and having a spider on her head at one point. Hoping to win 10 stars for her campmates, she won 9."But, after [Monday] night’s challenges, she impressed," Edward shared. "She faced some serious physical tasks and handled them like a pro. That perception flipped. She tackled a seriously tough task and came out looking strong, which probably earned her a lot of respect from both the campmates and viewers at home."He added, "It’s still early days, and anyone could find themselves in trouble if they falter or don’t click with the audience."I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here continues tonight on ITVX at 9pm.
