2024-12-11
The first responses to Sony's highly anticipated Marvel movie Kraven the Hunter have now emerged, and they offer a diverse range of opinions. While some praise the R-rated action and the performance of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, others express disappointment in various aspects such as the characters, the script, and the CGI.

Unraveling the Mixed Reactions to Kraven the Hunter

Action and Performance

YouTuber Grace Randolph took to Twitter to express her love for the movie, stating, "I LOVED IT As good as the first Venom. I would watch it again!" Aaron Taylor-Johnson truly embodied the character of Kraven, delivering a phenomenal performance that brought the role to life. His on-screen presence and the bloody action sequences he was involved in were highlights of the film.

However, not everyone was as impressed with the action. Some critics felt that the action cutaways were too quick, not allowing the audience to fully enjoy the thrilling moments. There were also complaints about the overall lack of intrigue in the story, which made it difficult to stay engaged throughout.

Characters and Storytelling

"Kraven the Hunter is exactly the film you’d expect at this point. The film doesn’t understand a single character it tries to adapt to screen and the whole movie often feels created by AI," writes The Direct's Russ Milheim. Many felt that the characters were not well-developed and that the story failed to do justice to the source material.

This is For Reel critic Alex Kokke added, "Kraven the Hunter is the perfect example to teach on film schools of how badly messed up your editing, story and performances." The awkward story structure decisions and the overwhelmingly brutal ADR seemed to detract from the overall viewing experience.

CGI and Visuals

Saw #KravenTheHunter tonight and why do CGI animals in 2024 look worse than the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park from over 30 years ago? CGI blockbusters need to make changes because somehow they are looking more and more unrealistic. The JP T-Rex is still the gold standard," tweeted one viewer. The CGI in Kraven the Hunter was a point of contention for many, with some finding it lacking compared to previous blockbusters.

Despite these issues, there were still elements that some viewers enjoyed. The R-rating added a certain level of grit and authenticity to the film, and there were several references to the Spider-Man lore that would delight fans.

Kraven the Hunter releases on December 13. In the meantime, check out our guide to all the upcoming major movie release dates for everything 2024 has in store until then.
