A former sound engineer has been accused of illegally distributing a significant number of unreleased recordings by the renowned rapper Eminem. Joseph Strange, who previously worked with Eminem from 2007 to 2021, stands charged with copyright infringement and transporting stolen goods across state lines. Authorities allege that Strange sold these tracks to various individuals, leading to over 25 songs being made available online without authorization in January this year.
The investigation into this matter began when several studio employees alerted the FBI after discovering the leaked music online. Law enforcement identified multiple buyers, including one known as Doja Rat, who reportedly paid $50,000 for the unreleased material. The search of Strange’s home uncovered hard drives containing copies of Eminem’s music, along with financial records indicating transactions related to the sale of these tracks. Eminem’s management confirmed that Strange lacked the proper authorization to possess or distribute any of the files in question.
