2025-03-17

The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film & TV Festival of 2025 has wrapped up its eventful schedule, offering a diverse array of films and television projects. This year's festival showcased an impressive lineup featuring 96 movies and 18 television shows screened between March 7 and March 14. From thrilling sequels to buzz-worthy horror films, the festival provided cinephiles with unforgettable experiences. Despite missing out on some premieres, attendees enjoyed both in-person and virtual screenings, experiencing the unique energy that only SXSW can deliver.

Among the standout films was "Clown in a Cornfield," which captivated audiences with its blend of gore and humor. The film follows a teenage girl who moves to a remote town where she encounters a sinister clown mascot. Another highlight, "The Accountant 2," brought Ben Affleck back as a socially awkward forensic accountant, this time teaming up with his estranged brother for a thrilling adventure. Meanwhile, "Ash" took viewers into space with Eiza González as an astronaut grappling with memory loss and untrustworthy company.

Documentaries also made a strong showing at the festival. "Take No Prisoners" delved into the complexities of freeing American hostages abroad through the lens of Eyvin Hernandez's imprisonment in Venezuela. In contrast, "Forever We Are Young" explored the fervent global fandom surrounding K-pop sensation BTS. These films not only entertained but also educated and moved audiences.

Comedy found its place with "Summer of '69," a coming-of-age story centered around a high school senior seeking love advice from an unexpected source. Lili Reinhart's performance in "American Sweatshop" highlighted the darker side of internet moderation while showcasing her versatility as an actress. Additionally, Seth Rogen's new series, "The Studio," offered a satirical look at Hollywood pressures, quickly becoming a fan favorite.

As the festival concludes, anticipation builds for these titles' wider releases. Whether it’s horror, drama, or comedy, the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival left its mark on participants and critics alike, proving once again why it remains one of the most anticipated events in the entertainment calendar.
