Historical Drama 'Chhaava' Continues Its Box Office Reign Amidst Online Piracy
2025-03-23

The historical drama 'Chhaava,' starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, has successfully entered its sixth week at the box office. Since its release, this film has consistently made waves in the cinema world. According to reports, on the 6th Saturday of its run, it grossed an impressive Rs. 3.70 crores, bringing its total net collection across all languages in India to approximately Rs. 578.65 crores. However, this success is not without challenges, as the movie faces controversy over an extensive online leak, with illegal copies appearing on numerous platforms.

Inspired by real events, 'Chhaava' has captivated audiences since its opening day. The film's journey at the box office reflects both its popularity and resilience. Despite the widespread piracy issue, which led to the registration of a case under various sections of Indian laws, the movie continues to dominate. Over 1800 illegal links have been identified, resulting in legal action against those responsible for distributing pirated versions.

Despite facing competition from recent releases like John Abraham’s 'The Diplomat' and Gal Gadot’s 'Snow White,' 'Chhaava' remains unchallenged in terms of box office performance. While these films received critical acclaim and respectable starts, they were unable to match 'Chhaava's earnings. For instance, on the ninth day of 'The Diplomat' and the second day of 'Snow White,' their collections stood at Rs. 2.35 crore and Rs. 1.06 crore respectively, significantly lower than 'Chhaava.'

A closer look at the weekly collections reveals the sustained interest in the film. During its first week, it amassed Rs. 219.25 crores, followed by Rs. 180.25 crores in the second week. Subsequent weeks saw steady declines but still substantial amounts: Rs. 84.05 crores in Week 3, Rs. 55.95 crores in Week 4, and Rs. 33.35 crores in Week 5. Even in its sixth week, it continued to generate revenue, earning Rs. 2.1 crores on Friday and an estimated Rs. 3.70 crores on Saturday.

As 'Chhaava' progresses further into its theatrical run, its ability to maintain audience engagement despite external challenges highlights its appeal. The film's enduring presence at the box office underscores the power of compelling storytelling combined with star power, proving that even amidst controversies, quality content can shine through.
