An Interfaith Celebration of Sacred Music Set to Unite Communities
2025-04-23

A unique interfaith gathering is set to take place this Sunday evening at the renowned Salt Lake Tabernacle. The event, titled "Sacred Music Evening," aims to bring together diverse faiths in a harmonious celebration through music and dance. Reverend Alan Scott Bachman, a Jewish rabbi from the House of Prayer for All Peoples, emphasized the significance of the occasion during a recent press conference. He described the tabernacle as an extraordinary structure imbued with the love and dedication of its creators, creating an atmosphere that resonates deeply with those who enter.

Participants will experience a vibrant tapestry of performances from various cultural and religious groups. Among the performers are the Utah Pipe Band, the Salt Lake Children’s Choir, and the Divya School of Dance, each contributing their unique artistry to the program. Elder Bruce Boucher, representing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will extend a warm welcome to attendees. Special moments include a Northern Traditional Dance by Carl Moore, who identifies with Hopi and Chemehuevi heritage, and musical renditions led by Congregation Kol Ami Cantor Adam Davis alongside renowned organist Bonnie Goodliffe. Additionally, the invocation and benediction will reflect Islamic and Sikh traditions respectively, underscoring the spirit of inclusivity.

This evening of sacred music underscores the power of unity and shared humanity across different belief systems. Coordinated by the Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable, originally established to support athletes during the 2002 Winter Olympics, the event invites people of all ages to partake in this enriching experience without charge. Free parking will be available, and doors open at 5 p.m., with the program commencing at 6 p.m. Rabbi Bachman and his wife will conclude the evening with a heartfelt rendition of "Let There Be Peace on Earth," accompanied by Goodliffe on the organ. Such gatherings highlight the universal aspiration for peace and mutual respect among all peoples.
