Jane Seymour: Post-Wildfire 'Post-Traumatic Numbness' Experience
2024-12-18
Jane Seymour, at 73, expressed her gratitude for her safety after her home faced the wrath of last week's California wildfires. In an exclusive interview at the American Ballet Theater Annual Benefit in Los Angeles on Monday, December 16, she shared her emotions. "I'm very grateful, incredibly relieved," she said. "It's interesting, you kind of have a sort of post-traumatic numbness. It's like, 'Did that really happen?' And it did."

Impact on Celebrities

Many celebrities, including Malibu residents like Cher and Barbra Streisand, had to flee their homes as the wildfire ravaged the Southern California coastline. Legendary actor Dick Van Dyke was even forced to evacuate just days before his 99th birthday. Seymour realized how lucky she was when she saw the effects on her community. "Driving around Malibu and looking at all the charred remains is not fun," she said. "But really considering what could have happened, we were all very fortunate."

Her Television Success

The actress is widely loved for her role in the hit western series Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, which ran for six seasons in the '90s. Her portrayal of Dr. Michaela Quinn, a physician seeking an adventure by leaving Boston, earned her a Golden Globe in 1996 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Drama. This series left a lasting mark on viewers and remains a favorite among many.

After the Show's Cancellation

After the show was canceled by CBS in 1998, many fans were disappointed. Decades later, they still long for a revival. When asked about current plans for a reboot, Seymour replied, "Not that I know of." She explained that she is currently involved in her own series, Harry Wild. "So, we've been doing that, and I did do a Christmas movie a couple of years ago with Joe Lando." However, she teased the possibility of a reunion. "People are actively trying to find more material for us to do together," she said. "Whether it's Quinn or something else. We love working together."

On-Set Tensions

Even though Seymour's Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman costar and she are now on good terms, during the filming of the show, there were some challenges. Seymour previously told Us in a 2019 interview that they didn't actually talk to each other, other than in dialogue or making out for about six or seven years. She went on to explain that they "couldn't" be "together" in "real-life." Despite the initial tension, Lando later became her "closest friend on the planet."
