Uncover Keira Knightley's Holiday Movie Secrets

Love Actually: A Controversial Holiday Classic

On Monday, Dec. 9, Knightley stopped by The Tonight Show. Host Jimmy Fallon pointed out that she was part of the ensemble in Love Actually, a 2003 comedy often regarded as one of the greatest holiday films. However, Knightley revealed that it's not one of her Christmas traditions. When asked if she watches it during the holidays, she admitted, "No. I saw it on the premiere when I was 18, and I've never seen it since." In the film, she played Juliet, married to Peter (Chiwetel Ejiofor), while Mark (Andrew Lincoln) was secretly in love with her. A memorable scene where Mark wishes Juliet a happy Christmas on giant cue cards has drawn both praise and criticism over the years. Knightley herself recalled being aware of the "creep factor" during shooting and having to reshoot the scene to adjust her expression. But this isn't the reason she avoids the film. She said, "This is nothing about Love Actually. I don't really watch anything I do. But I know it's become a massive thing for many people during Christmas."

Die Hard: A Controversial Holiday Choice

Instead of Love Actually, Knightley revealed that her holiday film of choice is Die Hard. This choice has sparked some controversy as there is an ongoing debate about whether the 1988 action flick set on Christmas Eve actually counts as a holiday movie. It remains to be seen if a similar debate will emerge around her own Christmas-set spy series, Black Doves, for which she was recently nominated for a Golden Globe Award. Knightley's decision to prefer Die Hard over Love Actually shows her diverse taste in holiday entertainment and adds another layer to her already fascinating public persona.
