The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) is all set to commence the transition from analog to Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) this very Wednesday. This significant move will initially impact Greater Santo Domingo, the National District, the Eastern region, and San Cristóbal. Indotel has a well-thought-out plan to distribute 940,000 signal converter boxes to those vulnerable households that have been relying on antenna-based television and do not have contracted services. By doing so, they ensure that these households can seamlessly access the new digital signal. The nationwide distribution is anticipated to be completed by 2025.

Backed by the Inter-American Development Bank

This transition effort is strongly supported by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), with a substantial $20 million investment. Julissa Cruz, the executive director of Indotel, emphasized the importance of this initiative in bringing about the democratization of access to quality public television. Currently, many Dominicans are facing poor image quality on their television screens. With the implementation of Digital Terrestrial Television, this issue will be addressed, providing a significant improvement in viewing experiences.
