A Manassas Park, Va. individual has found himself at the center of a tragic and perplexing case. Naresh Bhatt, a 28-year-old man from Nepal, was charged with two serious felonies in Prince William County Circuit – Criminal Division. His alleged actions include first-degree murder and physically defiling a dead body in connection with the disappearance of his wife, Mamta Kafle Bhatt, whose body remains unfound. Unraveling the Mystery of a Man's Alleged Crime After Spouse's Disappearance
Initial Disappearance and Welfare Check
Mamta Kafle Bhatt was first reported missing on August 5. This came days after she failed to show up for work, prompting local police to conduct a wellness check. The 28-year-old mother's absence raised concerns and set in motion a series of events that would lead to the shocking charges against her husband.
According to the details, Mamta had not been seen or heard from since July 29, as reported by WUSA9. During the welfare check, Naresh told authorities that he and his wife were in the process of separating. This revelation added another layer of complexity to the already puzzling situation.
Alleged Internet Searches and Purchases
In April, prosecutors alleged that Naresh used his work laptop to search for specific questions related to marriage and debt after a spouse's death. He searched for "How long does it take to get married after spouse die" and "What happen to debt died spouse." Additionally, he googled "What happens if spouse disappears in Virginia."
These internet searches raised suspicions and pointed to a possible motive or premeditation. Furthermore, prosecutors accused Naresh of going to a Walmart in Chantilly on July 30 to buy three knives, with two still unaccounted for. The next day, surveillance footage at another Walmart showed him buying cleaning supplies. These actions further fueled the investigation and added to the evidence against him.
Disposal of Evidence and Suspicious Behavior
Per the Post, prosecutors also alleged that Naresh got rid of a bloodstained bath mat in a donation bin outside a Loudoun County gas station. He was seen wearing gloves as he discarded bags into a trash compactor in the early morning hours after Mamta Kafle's disappearance.
These actions suggest a conscious effort to cover up his tracks and hide evidence. The details of his behavior have raised many questions and have become crucial elements in the ongoing investigation.
Family and the Impact
Mamta Kafle and Naresh share a 1-year-old daughter who has been in the care of her family. Her mother, Gita Kafle, expressed her heartache over the loss. "She was a person who was very hardworking, very beautiful [and] very honest. She aspired to be somebody great and she worked really hard and she could be. I don't know what to say because I can never forget her but whenever I think about it I have my heartache."
The family's pain is palpable, and the search for Mamta Kafle continues. Authorities have conducted extensive searches, including grid searches with K9s and submitted over 30 search warrants and subpoenas to gather information.
