Marquee Broadcasting Acquires Four Television Stations in California and Oregon
2025-01-16

In a significant development for the broadcasting industry, Marquee Broadcasting has announced its acquisition of four television stations located in California and Oregon. This move comes just one day after Imagicomm Communications confirmed plans to divest all broadcast television stations it acquired from Cox Media Group in August 2022 as part of FCC-mandated divestitures. The newly acquired stations include KIEM-3, an NBC affiliate, and KVIQ-17, a CBS affiliate, both serving the Eureka-Arcata area in California. Additionally, Marquee will take over KMVU-26, a FOX affiliate, and KFBI-48, aligned with Telemundo, which serve the Medford-Ashland-Grants Pass region in Oregon. While financial details remain undisclosed, the transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2025. This strategic expansion underscores Marquee's commitment to enhancing its presence in key markets.

The decision by Imagicomm Communications to sell these stations reflects a broader shift in the company’s strategic direction. Over the past two and a half years, Imagicomm has operated these properties, which have deep roots in their respective communities. Patricia Lane, CEO of Marquee Broadcasting, expressed enthusiasm about welcoming these stations and their employees into the Marquee family. "We are excited to continue providing high-quality programming and community service," she stated. The stations being acquired have storied histories. KIEM-3, established in 1953, was Eureka's first television station, while KMVU-26 began operations in 1994. These stations have been instrumental in serving local audiences with diverse content and information.

Imagicomm Communications' President and CEO, David Cerullo, highlighted that this divestiture aligns with the company's refocused strategy. He acknowledged the challenging decision to part ways with stations in the North Coast and Southern Oregon regions but emphasized the importance of finding a buyer committed to community service. Marquee Broadcasting, known for its strong operational leadership under COO Gene Steinberg and ownership by Brian and Patricia Lane, stands out as an ideal fit. The company already manages several stations across Idaho, Washington, and Wyoming, including KNIN-9, a FOX affiliate in Boise. This acquisition will further bolster Marquee's portfolio and extend its reach into vital broadcasting markets.

This transaction marks a pivotal moment for both Imagicomm Communications and Marquee Broadcasting. For Imagicomm, it represents a strategic realignment aimed at optimizing resources and focusing on core business areas. Meanwhile, Marquee Broadcasting gains valuable assets that will enhance its regional influence and strengthen its commitment to delivering quality content and services to local communities. As the deal progresses toward completion, both parties express optimism about the future and the positive impact on the communities they serve.
