Missing South Carolina Grandmother Found Dead in Submerged Car with Medical Issues

A South Carolina woman's life took a tragic turn when she was found dead. Shelia Thompson, a resident of Greenville, was last seen on the evening of Monday, Dec. 2. Her family reported her missing the next day, on Tuesday, Dec. 3. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office provided this information in a news release.
Details of the Incident
Thompson, 54, was known to have "serious medical conditions," although the specific details of her medical history remained undisclosed. On Sunday, Dec. 8, at around 10:45 p.m. local time, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a vehicle found submerged near West Church Road and Alpen Road in Easley. Later, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on social media that Thompson was "found deceased" in the car.According to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, the drowning death was ruled accidental. It is believed that Thompson lost control of her car while driving on West Church Road, causing it to travel off the road and into the creek. Representatives from the Anderson County Coroner’s Office and the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office did not respond immediately to PEOPLE's request for comment.At the time the car was discovered, Thompson's family was also searching the area as they had learned that her cellphone "pinged" in the vicinity. Her sister, Toni Fuller, expressed her grief in a statement, saying, "My sister is the sweetest person you would want to know. She has 4 loving children and 7 grands. She was very spiritual and loving. She is the glue that holds the family together and she is already missed by the entire family."An investigation into Thompson's death is currently ongoing by both the Anderson County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
