Music Education: Transforming Lives, One Note at a Time
2025-04-08

The Cumberland Valley School of Music (CVSM) is celebrating the achievements of David Dresser, an exemplary student whose journey highlights the profound impact of musical education. Under the mentorship of distinguished instructors such as Ben Harlan, Brian Helman, and Mark Bryson, David has honed his skills in piano and ukulele over the years. His experiences performing at venues like the Thomson Alumnae Chapel during recitals have left an indelible mark on him, fostering a deep sense of pride and community.

Beyond his musical pursuits, David leads a vibrant life in Chambersburg, balancing personal interests with acts of service. An avid horseback rider, he also dedicates his time to volunteering at several local organizations, including the ARC, the animal shelter, King Street Church, and the Franklin County Therapeutic Riding Center. Recognized for his contributions, David has received honors such as being named the March of Dimes poster child for Clinton County, PA, in 1980 and attaining the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. His courageous actions following a vehicle accident further underscore his character, earning him the Medal of Merit.

Community support plays a pivotal role in making CVSM’s educational programs accessible to students like David. Thanks to scholarships funded by generous donations, individuals from all walks of life can afford quality music education. The school is actively seeking additional contributions to maintain its facilities, organize events, and provide scholarships to deserving students. Heather McEndree, Executive Director, encourages everyone to participate in sustaining this vital resource for future generations. By investing in music education, we not only nurture individual talents but also enhance the cultural richness of our society.
