2024-12-19
Hello! Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Mars, a commercial music major at Cerritos College. With a passion for singing that dates back to her early years, Mars has embarked on an incredible musical journey.
Uncover the Musical Odyssey of Mars
Early Beginnings
Mars has always had a love for singing. From a young age, it was a pastime that brought her joy. In middle school, she began teaching herself, mimicking the styles of her favorite artists. This laid the foundation for her musical growth. When she entered high school, she joined the choir, where she further developed her skills. Her first year was in the beginner women's choir, and the next three years were spent in the advanced choir. The Switch from Classical to Commercial Music
Being in choir deepened Mars' love for singing. She initially came to Cerritos College with the intention of becoming a choir teacher. However, after some exploration, she realized that commercial music was her true calling. Her music professor encouraged her to make the switch, believing it would be better for her. And she couldn't agree more. Commercial music encompasses a wide range of genres, from pop and R&B to rap. It's not just about the performance but also the business and technical aspects, such as music production and music law.The Commercial Music Ensemble Experience
Mars has been a part of the commercial music ensemble at Cerritos College for almost three years. This experience has been truly remarkable. She has had the opportunity to work with incredibly talented musicians, developing skills in communication and teamwork along the way. It's been a lot of fun and hard work, but the rewards are well worth it.Inspiration and Influences
Musically, Ateez is Mars' biggest inspiration. She has been a fan since their debut and loves their talent, concepts, and stages. Another artist that inspires her is Isaac Dunbar, especially his lyricism. When writing songs, she often draws inspiration from him. Mars has also had the chance to perform with Dr. Maz's band and record an entire album in just four months. It was a challenging experience, recording 14 songs in three weeks and getting used to new equipment. But it was an amazing opportunity that gave her a taste of professional recording and performing.Current and Future Plans
Currently, Mars is still figuring out her future. The switch from classical voice to commercial music was a big leap, and she's still navigating the world of technology. But she's open to where life takes her and is working on various projects. She believes that hard work pays off and is putting her best foot forward. The Role of Family
There isn't a specific singer in Mars' family that she looked up to. However, her mom used to play music in the car, which sparked her love for singing. It has been a constant presence in her life.Advice for Aspiring Singers
One of the best pieces of advice Mars has received is to stop overthinking. She often gets in her own head, which holds her back. She advises others to find that one thing they love and make room for it in their lives, even when life gets crazy.About the Nickname "Mars"
Mars has always liked the name and thought it was cute. When she got to college, she started going by it. While her family doesn't call her Mars, everyone outside of her family does. And she's gotten used to it over time.
