Thanksgiving morning saw eight kick-ball teams coming together in Fort Totten Park to kick off their tournament. By the afternoon, it was time for the highly anticipated championship game. The energy was palpable as players gave their all on the field.
Not everyone was there to claim victory. As one participant shared, "It's all about the community at the end of the day. It's not just about being with individual families; it's about people coming together and having fun as a whole."
We had the chance to talk to several people, and everyone expressed how much they were enjoying this event. Tadria Wallace, the mastermind behind this idea, mentioned that it came about two months ago, and she is grateful they were able to make it happen on a holiday. "We have a lot of out-of-towners here, and it was a miracle that this came together," she said.
Despite the initial challenge of a flooded field and unpredictable weather, the organizers were able to bring the energy and make the event a success. People came from all walks of life, and there was a sense of unity and fellowship.
This event truly embodies the spirit of Thanksgiving. It's about family fun and bringing the community together. As one attendee put it, "It brings people out and connects them. There was a lot of people here, and it was a great time."
Whether it was joking with the community or simply enjoying the game, everyone was in a good mood. This event has the potential to become an annual tradition, creating lasting memories for all involved.
