Worcester's vibrant cultural scene has welcomed a significant change with the appointment of Ariana Falk as the new executive director of the Worcester Chamber Music Society. Effective May 1, Falk assumes this pivotal role following the retirement of Tracy Kraus, who served as the founding executive director. Falk brings a unique blend of artistic talent and educational commitment to her new position. As a cellist and former education director, she has been instrumental in shaping the society’s outreach programs, particularly the Neighborhood Strings initiative. This award-winning program provides free music lessons to young people from underserved areas, fostering both musical skills and community involvement.
The Worcester Chamber Music Society has evolved significantly since its inception nearly two decades ago. What began as a small ensemble performing in the basement of St. Paul’s Cathedral has grown into an organization that presents 15-17 concerts annually. Beyond performances, the society has expanded its impact through various initiatives. The Neighborhood Strings program alone serves over 100 young musicians, while the Music Heals series offers free concerts in health and social service settings. Additionally, the ChamberFest Adult Intensive Workshop caters to adult learners. All these efforts underscore the society’s commitment to making music accessible to everyone. Decisions within the organization are made democratically by its core group of 9 to 10 musicians, reflecting a collaborative spirit that defines the society.
Ariana Falk’s leadership promises to continue and enhance the society’s tradition of excellence in chamber music and education. Her dedication to fostering community engagement through music is evident in her extensive background and passion for innovative teaching methods. Both outgoing director Tracy Kraus and board president Jeffrey Paster have expressed confidence in Falk’s ability to lead the organization forward. With her vision and expertise, Falk is poised to guide the Worcester Chamber Music Society into a future where music not only enriches lives but also strengthens the bonds within the community.
