The Northshore Community Orchestra, with a rich history dating back to 1987 and formerly known as the Slidell Youth & Community Orchestra, recently treated the audience in Slidell on November 10. This symphony orchestra, which welcomes both youth and adults, presented a program of patriotic music dedicated to Veterans Day, honoring the military men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. However, due to the impending rainy weather as Hurricane Rafael made its way through the Gulf, the concert had to be relocated from Heritage Park to the Slidell Municipal Auditorium.

The Northshore Community Orchestra's Tribute to Veterans

History and Foundation

The Northshore Community Orchestra holds a significant place in St. Tammany. Established in 1987, it has been a source of musical delight for both the youth and adults of the community. It started as the Slidell Youth & Community Orchestra and has since grown into a renowned symphony orchestra. The fact that some of the orchestra musicians are family members, such as spouses, parents/children, and siblings, adds a special touch to the performances. This sense of family and togetherness enhances the musical experience and creates a unique atmosphere during the concerts.

Over the years, the orchestra has become an integral part of the local cultural scene, bringing the joy of music to the people of Slidell and beyond. Its commitment to providing quality musical performances has earned it a loyal following and widespread recognition.

Patriotic Music and Veterans Day Tribute

The program presented by the Northshore Community Orchestra on Veterans Day was a celebration of patriotism and the sacrifices of the military. The music filled the air with a sense of pride and honor, paying tribute to the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. From the stirring notes of the national anthem to the moving melodies of other patriotic songs, each piece was a testament to the courage and dedication of the military.

The orchestra's performance on this special day was a powerful reminder of the importance of remembering and honoring those who have served. It touched the hearts of the audience and left a lasting impression.

Weather-Related Venue Shift

The arrival of Hurricane Rafael and the subsequent rainy weather forecast posed a challenge for the Northshore Community Orchestra. However, the organizers were quick to make the necessary arrangements to ensure that the concert could still take place. The decision to move the concert from Heritage Park to the Slidell Municipal Auditorium was a practical one that allowed the musicians to perform in a more suitable environment.

The shift in venue did not dampen the spirits of the performers or the audience. Instead, it added an element of excitement and adventure to the event. The Slidell Municipal Auditorium provided a spacious and comfortable setting for the concert, allowing everyone to enjoy the music to the fullest.
