Marshall Rutter was among the founders of the Los Angeles Master Chorale Association in 1964. His early leadership in this organization was instrumental in shaping its future. He served on the board for six decades, holding the presidency during three separate occasions between 1978 - 1992 and becoming Chairman during three separate terms between 1981 - 1996. His dedication and commitment to the Chorale were unwavering.During this time, under his guidance, the Chorale took its place as the preeminent large professional choral organization in the country. His influence extended far beyond the walls of the Chorale. He also held notable positions on the board of Chorus America, further contributing to the growth and development of choral music on a broader scale.

Family and Legacy

Rutter is survived by his beloved wife, Terry Knowles, who served as Executive Director (2000 - 2011) and President & CEO of the Los Angeles Master Chorale (2011 - 2015). He also leaves behind his three adult children and three wonderful grandchildren.
