December: The Busy Season for Choral Groups
Iowa City's non-profit barbershop ensemble, the Old Capitol Chorus, is in full swing this month. With several performances lined up, their main public event, "We SING You A Merry Christmas!" at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Robert A Lee Community Center, is the highlight. Admission is free, and so are the refreshments. In the cozy Social Hall, audiences are treated to nearly an hour of rich harmonies that warm the heart and embrace the holiday spirit, regardless of the weather outside.
The Old Capitol Chorus has had an exciting year. They participated in the "Summer of the Arts Iowa City" contest and welcomed new members. This holiday season, five new singers will join the chorus: JZ Kenyon, Ian Bee, Jon Marner, Emmett Adamson, and Steve Ganesh. If you love to sing, don't hesitate to drop by one of their Thursday night rehearsals at the Robert A. Lee Community Center.
The talented Old Gold A Cappella group brings incredible energy and entertainment to every performance. Under the direction of Jake Roth, with Julia Pokorny as president, Old Gold delivers a delightful mix of vocal excellence and stage presence. Their performances are a treat for the ears and the eyes.
