Pentatonix, the renowned Grammy Award-winning a capella group, is on the verge of a unique musical legacy. With three of its members becoming parents in recent years and their daughters now joining them on tour, there's a glimmer of hope that a new era of Pentatonix might be on the horizon. Kirstin Maldonado, Matt Sallee, and Kevin Olusola have welcomed daughters into their lives, each adding a touch of sweetness and potential to the group. "Pentatonix Daughters: The Seeds of a Musical Dynasty?"
The Birth of a Family Tradition
In 2021 and 2024, Pentatonix members began their journey into parenthood. Kirstin Maldonado and her husband Ben Hausdorff welcomed Elliana in 2022 and are expecting their second child. Matt Sallee welcomed Maliyah in 2024, while Kevin Olusola became a father twice, first with Kaia in 2021 and then with Christian in 2024. These little ones have already started to make an impact on the group. During their Pentatonix: Hallelujah! It’s a Christmas Tour this winter, the kids have been by their parents' sides, watching from the wings as they perform across 25 cities in the US. One heartwarming moment was captured when Elliana held infant Maliyah during a show. It's a sight that showcases the strong family bond within Pentatonix.
As Maldonado says, "It’s just so sweet because obviously we’re such a family, and so then to see your children interact with your family, it’s just amazing. It’s just the best feeling." This shared love for music and the holiday spirit is creating lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come.
Early Signs of Musical Talent
Even at a young age, the girls are showing hints of a future in music. Elliana loves to sing and is a fan of the glitzier aspects of performing. She often goes into hair and makeup, eager to join the action. Maldonado jokes, "She goes into hair and makeup, and is like, ‘My turn,’ ” The toddler even sings into her mother's microphone and reminds the band to get on stage. Maliyah, just 4 months old, is already showing off her dancing skills. Sallee says, "I’ll rap at her a little bit, and I’ll be like, ‘Go, move, move your legs, move your legs,’ and she’ll kick. She has rhythm, we’re good. She’ll be a dancer, she’ll be a singer." These early signs suggest that a future girl group within Pentatonix might not be a far-fetched idea.
It's too soon to tell exactly where this will lead, but the potential is there. As the group continues to perform and share their Christmas joy with audiences nationwide, the influence of these little ones is only growing.
The Magic of Christmas with Kids
This is the group's third holiday season performing together, and each year it holds a special place in their hearts. While they've always loved sharing the festive spirit with fans, having their kids by their side makes it all the more magical. Fellow member Scott Hoying says, "It’s always magical in some way, and now that everyone’s having kids and stuff, Christmas magic has a new light to it." The annual Christmas tour family photos they hope to start is a testament to their desire to capture these special moments and watch their children grow.
As they tour across the country, the bond between the parents and their daughters is strengthening, and the love for music is being passed down. Whether it leads to a full-fledged girl group or not, the impact of these young ones on Pentatonix is undeniable.
