Harry's Interaction with Legacy Award Recipients
During a meaningful encounter with Chiara Riyanti Hutapea Zhang, 18, from Indonesia, and Christina Williams, 27, from Jamaica, met in New York City in September, Harry spoke of his mother's lasting influence. "My mother's belief in the power of young people to drive positive change continues to inspire me. No matter the challenges we face, whether it's climate change, mental health or systemic injustices, her legacy and the efforts of young people to inspire further action in the world fill me with hope," he said. This interaction showcases the profound impact Diana's belief has on the next generation.Another significant aspect is Harry's recognition of the power of working together. He pointed out that sometimes the world's problems seem too big for one person to tackle alone. However, the efforts of these young recipients are a powerful reminder that everyone has the potential to contribute to a fairer world. "No one is ever a conduit for change alone and the award recipients we're honoring today are testament to that," Harry added. The Royal Brothers' Support for the Diana Award
The royal brothers, Prince William and Prince Harry, may have differences, but they both take pride in supporting the Diana Award. This year, William was the guest of honor and made the main speech at the Legacy Awards dinner, meeting the 20 recipients in person in London. Harry, on the other hand, spoke to them via video link. Their joint efforts demonstrate the importance they attach to this charity. The charity is coming to the end of its landmark 25th year anniversary. Set up in 1999, it is the only non-profit carrying Diana's name, and both sons are committed to its success.Achievements of the Award Recipients
Among the 34 American young people receiving Diana Awards this year is Lila Rousso, who founded 'Dress UP', a non-profit dedicated to providing formalwear for young people of all identities and orientations. She forged partnerships with dressmakers to donate more than 300 dresses across the country, including 200 prom dresses to Florida teens affected by Hurricane Ian. This has helped them experience a rite of passage they might have otherwise missed.Another recipient is Titilope Olotu, who founded 'PERIOD PADÍ' to provide pads and education to over 10,000 Nigerian girls. She has raised $12,350 through initiatives like a digital guidebook and has received recognition from Vice President Kamala Harris. Growing up in Nigeria and the US, Titilope gained insight into global inequalities, especially in women's health, and her experiences with FGM and menstrual stigma fueled her passion for change.Dr. Tessy Ojo CBE, the chief executive of the Diana Award, warmly congratulated the new recipients. "This event is special, as it marks our 25th anniversary year and our most competitive year yet with record nominations," she said. "This new cohort of Diana Award recipients demonstrate that young people have the power to change the world; a belief also held by Diana, Princess of Wales."
