Studio 3, located in Maragia’s home, offers piano and vocal lessons focusing on fundamental sight-reading skills and theory basics across various genres. The studio hosts three recitals annually, catering to students ranging from six to ninety years old. Over the years, Studio 3 has provided performance opportunities at nursing homes, churches, and community events like Kiwanis Brat Days. From an early age, Jenny Maragia displayed a natural affinity for music. At four, she spontaneously played a hymn she had heard at church, marking the beginning of her musical journey. Her mother, recognizing her potential, began teaching her to read music when she was five. By eight, Maragia was receiving private lessons from Mrs. Ferris in Monroe, Wisconsin, traveling weekly from Freeport, Illinois. Throughout her youth, Maragia immersed herself in various musical activities, including live theater, school bands, and choirs. She even played with both youth and adult church bands.
Maragia's dedication to music extended into adulthood. In the early 1990s, she moved to Rockford with her family, where she faced significant challenges, including a divorce that left her as a single mother of four. Despite these adversities, Maragia persevered, starting Studio 3 in October 2000 with just one student. Within two months, she had five students, and by year-end, she produced the studio's first Christmas album. A pivotal moment came when she helped a student create a demo CD, leading to new opportunities, including teaching at Keith Country Day School and developing a curriculum for young children.
Over the years, Maragia has relocated Studio 3 several times, taught in over 50 homes in the Rockford/Belvidere area, and hired additional instructors. Performance remains a cornerstone of her teaching philosophy, offering students chances to play with other musicians and showcase their talents. The annual dinner recitals at country clubs became highly anticipated events. Although the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted her travel schedule, it also prompted her to establish a stable home-based studio with a waiting list of eager students.
