Section 1: The Beginnings and Inspiration
Lutalo Jones, a 25-year-old multi-instrumentalist and producer, was drawn to the New England landscape and philosophy. A photograph of a black horse taken by their partner's grandfather decades ago became the cover of their debut album, symbolizing change and reflecting on their past. All the songs on the album were written in Vermont, teaching them to keep it simple and create space for silence.Living in a geographically isolated area has taught Lutalo valuable survival and problem-solving skills. They have connected with other musicians in the Vermont scene and are concerned about the shifts in the music industry.Section 2: Rising Success and Touring
The Academy was met with critical acclaim, with outlets like Rolling Stone UK and Fader praising it. Lutalo's previous EP releases served as prologues, and they caught the attention of The Guardian. In August, while playing at Psych Fest in Manchester, England, they realized their rising success. After the debut album release, Lutalo went on a U.S. tour opening for Nilüfer Yanya and will be headlining a U.S. tour in winter at Radio Bean in Burlington. Performing music provides lessons in surrendering to the collective joy of music.Section 3: Musical Journey and Creativity
Lutalo's first instrument was the drums, and they have since picked up guitar, bass, and piano. They play all the instruments in their recordings to have more control over the creative process. Their multi-instrumentalist background helps them as a producer, as having a base of rhythm is important for all instruments. They intend to cross genres and styles, constantly reinventing and surprising themselves through their music. The goal is to make good songs and serve the vision of their personal experience.
