On Saturday, January 11th, at approximately 8:55 AM local time, PC Rosie Prior responded to a call for assistance on the A19 near Thirsk. Moments later, a heavy goods vehicle struck Prior and Welford, who were standing together near the highway. The teenage passenger in Welford's vehicle also suffered injuries but remains in stable condition at the hospital.
