2024-12-17
Travis Hunter, the Heisman Trophy winner, and his fiancée Leanna Lenee have found themselves at the center of a social media storm. Allegations were made that Leanna was annoyed with Hunter for taking pictures with fans, but she is now setting the record straight.
Defending Herself Against Accusations
In a video posted to TikTok on Monday, December 16, Leanna Lenee took to social media to defend herself. The event in question was an Adidas pop-up event held at their flagship store on 5th Avenue in New York City on Saturday, December 14. This gathering preceded the Heisman Trophy ceremony. In response to a viral clip making the rounds on social media, Leanna said, "People are saying that I’m like, ‘What am I supposed to do? Just sit here?’ " She claimed that the internet misread the interaction. She went on to explain that the people in the clip were not fans but employees of Adidas who were getting social media content with Hunter after the event ended. She was simply trying to figure out what to do next.Leanna's TikTok video, which lasts just under eight minutes, provides a detailed account. She said, "I said, ‘Do you want me to sit here? Or do you want me to go with the family? Or do you want me to come with you?’ Because again, what y’all don’t know off of a seven-second clip, is those weren’t fans, by the way, he had already finished that part." She also emphasized that she had been at the store the entire time, taking pictures and talking to everyone. "I wasn’t annoyed with no fans, at all. I’m never annoyed with fans," she continued.Leanna further explained that as Hunter was about to leave the store to head to his Heisman Trophy rehearsal, she wanted to know if she should go with him or stay with his family, who were at the store but shopping on different floors.Travis Hunter's Support for His Fiancée
Before Leanna posted her video, Hunter also made one of his own. On Twitch, he told viewers that his fiancée drank a lot of alcohol and cried herself to sleep after seeing the hurtful comments online. "Y’all hate on me and then y’all go hate on my girl. I feel the same pain that she feel," Hunter said. "We’re inseparable [sic], we’re with each other. If she hurting, of course I’m going to be hurting."Dealing with Backlash
Leanna previously stated that Hunter gave her "permission" to respond to the backlash she's faced. Fans have accused her of getting upset with him for talking to cheerleaders at a football game and not standing up to cheer him on when he was awarded the Heisman Trophy. "The things that I see people make up is truly crazy," Leanna said on TikTok. "Because it’s not what happened, and I just think people are just finding every single little thing and trying to make it something it’s not."Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.
