On January 7, while watching the harrowing updates about the wildfires spreading across Los Angeles County, Deutsch’s thoughts immediately turned to the animals trapped in harm's way. He knew he had to act fast. With six horses and eight adopted dogs of his own, Deutsch understood the urgency and fear that animal owners must have been feeling. Without hesitation, he decided to leverage his resources—a truck and trailer capable of holding up to ten horses—and set out to make a difference. Upon arriving at the first location in Palisades, Malibu, and Topanga, Deutsch was met with scenes that would haunt anyone. The desperation on people’s faces was palpable; they were unsure of what to do or where to go. Fires raged nearby, creating an atmosphere of sheer terror.
