Wendy Williams Speaks Out on Her Treatment and Guardianship Struggles
2025-01-16

In a candid conversation, former television host Wendy Williams has opened up about her experience in a luxury care facility following her controversial diagnosis of progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). This marks her first public interview since the release of a Lifetime documentary in February 2024. During the call-in to the Breakfast Club, Williams expressed dissatisfaction with her current living conditions and medication regimen, shedding light on the challenges she faces under court-ordered guardianship.

Williams, who is 60 years old, revealed that she is unhappy with the stringent measures at the facility where she resides. She described feeling restricted by the need for keys to access different areas and being administered seven daily pills without clear explanations. “I’ve had two pills my whole life. There are seven pills, I have no idea what this pill is doing,” she said during the interview. This sentiment reflects her frustration with the system that has controlled much of her life over the past three years.

The former media personality's troubles began in 2022 when Wells Fargo froze her accounts based on claims from her financial adviser that she was of unsound mind. Consequently, New York lawyer Sabrina Morrissey was appointed as her legal guardian. However, Williams' family has been vocal in their opposition to Morrissey's management of the guardianship. Her sister, Wanda Finnie, previously stated that contact between the family and Williams was cut off after the guardianship commenced.

During the recent interview, Williams also addressed the broader issues surrounding her situation. She emphasized that the system she is part of is flawed and has led to many false claims. Her niece, Alex Finnie, joined the call and highlighted the restrictive nature of Williams' environment, noting the lack of proper sunlight and the extensive security measures visitors must navigate.

Williams' comments provide an inside look into the complexities of her current circumstances and the ongoing legal battles that have impacted her personal freedom. The interview underscores the importance of addressing systemic issues within guardianship arrangements and the need for transparency in medical treatments. Through this dialogue, Williams hopes to bring attention to these concerns and advocate for changes that could benefit others facing similar challenges.
