WNBA Champions to Broadcast Locally on Vegas 34
2025-03-13

A groundbreaking partnership has been unveiled between the Las Vegas Aces and The E.W. Scripps Company's sports division, ensuring local fans can enjoy all non-nationally exclusive games on broadcast television station "Vegas 34." This multi-year deal will feature the reigning WNBA champions from the 2022 and 2023 seasons on KMCC-DT 34, a channel also used for National Hockey League broadcasts of the Las Vegas Golden Knights. The collaboration further extends to include a weekly show titled "In the Paint," offering an insider’s look at the team through highlights, interviews, and exclusive content.

This significant agreement represents a continuation of the broadcasting history that dates back to 2009 when Cranston Acquisition formed a partnership with Spanish Broadcasting System to establish Mega TV affiliation. Following financial difficulties, Cranston sold KMCC to Entravision Communications, which eventually transferred ownership to Ion Media in January 2020. The property was subsequently acquired by Scripps, solidifying its place as a major player in the local media landscape. Under this new arrangement, all games not covered by national broadcasters will be televised by Scripps Sports, although specific financial details have not been disclosed.

The enthusiasm surrounding this partnership is palpable, especially given the recent achievements of the Las Vegas Aces, including two WNBA championships within the past three years. Nikki Fargas, President of the Las Vegas Aces, expressed excitement about broadening access to their talented team, allowing even more fans to witness their journey toward a potential third championship. Brian Lawlor, President of Scripps Sports, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of making high-quality sports programming accessible to passionate fans across the largest possible platforms.

Furthermore, while Scripps owns KTNV-13, the ABC affiliate in Las Vegas, it will focus solely on marketing efforts rather than airing Aces games. Fans eagerly await the announcement of the full WNBA national broadcast schedule, which will finalize the local television lineup on Vegas 34. With the regular season set to commence on May 16, anticipation continues to build for what promises to be an exhilarating campaign.

Beyond simply broadcasting games, this alliance underscores a commitment to enhancing the viewing experience and engaging with the community. By combining dynamic game coverage with insightful programming like "In the Paint," both organizations aim to foster deeper connections with fans and celebrate the remarkable achievements of the Las Vegas Aces.
