In a celebration of musical talent and dedication, over 450 high school musicians from across Wyoming assembled in Cheyenne for the annual All-State music event. Held from January 19 to 21, this gathering, organized by the Wyoming High School Activities Association (WHSAA) and the Wyoming Music Educators Association (WMEA), offers students invaluable opportunities for rehearsal and performance. The event kicked off with an opening concert at the Cheyenne Civic Center and will culminate in a grand gala concert on the evening of January 21st. This festival not only highlights the exceptional skills of young musicians but also fosters a community of artistic growth and collaboration.

The selection process for participating in this prestigious event was rigorous. Students had to meet stringent criteria, including active participation in their respective school music programs and compliance with WHSAA eligibility rules. Auditions were conducted through recorded performances submitted during a specific timeframe in November. Only those who excelled in these evaluations earned a place in the All-State ensembles. Esteemed conductors from renowned institutions have been brought in to lead the various groups. Dr. Peter Boonshaft from Hofstra University directs the All-State Band, Julie Ullery-Sorensen leads the Orchestra, and Dr. Kristina MacMullen from Baylor University conducts the Choir.

Throughout the three-day event, participants are fully immersed in rehearsals and activities designed to enhance their musical abilities. The initial days involved chair placements and intensive practice sessions at Cheyenne South High School and the Civic Center. Laramie County Community College hosted an evening of engaging activities for the students, providing them with both educational and social experiences. On the final day, after completing the last round of rehearsals and visiting exhibits, the musicians will take to the stage for the gala concert, showcasing their hard work and dedication.
