Young Stars Shine as Elementary Students Create Inspiring Music for Capitals
2025-04-23

A group of enthusiastic young students from Brooke Grove Elementary School have stepped into the spotlight, bringing fresh energy to the world of professional sports. Through a unique collaboration with the Washington Capitals and renowned musician Paulie Z, these third, fourth, and fifth graders crafted an original song and accompanying music video to support their local hockey team during its historic playoff run.

The creative process unfolded at the MedStar Capitals IcePlex, where former Capitals legends Peter Bondra and Alan May joined in to mentor the children. This initiative not only allowed the students to experience the thrill of performing but also deepened their understanding of both the Capitals' storied history and the intricacies of music production. Principal Travis Payne expressed pride in seeing his students embrace this opportunity to express themselves artistically while contributing positively to their community.

Inspiration knows no age limit, as evidenced by the impact this project had on participants like Dallas Reddix and Kallie Bukovic. Beyond gaining confidence through public performance, they learned perseverance as aspects of filming demanded multiple takes. The resulting music video made its debut during intermission at the Capitals' opening playoff match and will continue airing soon after. Such ventures remind us all that creativity fosters growth and connection across generations, proving yet again how powerful collaboration can inspire greatness in everyone involved.
