When he realized the truth, he immediately texted his mother, exclaiming "F— they contain walnuts!" Louise, concerned, asked if he had eaten any. George confirmed that he had, and Louise urged him to seek medical attention. But George did not respond, and the situation quickly deteriorated.
Back at home, his husband, Joe Nolan, 25, administered an EpiPen. However, eight minutes had passed since George had eaten the nuts, and his brain was deprived of oxygen for 26 minutes. Paramedics provided further treatment, but the road ahead was uncertain.
Alex shared that George is experiencing "neurostorms," which is hyperactivity in the brain after a traumatic injury. These episodes include increased heart rate, blood pressure, sweating, hyperthermia, and motor posturing. It is a difficult time for the family as they await George's recovery.
Even though George is still minimally conscious and unresponsive, Alex has been spending time with him, listening to music, showing him photos, and recounting memories. These moments are precious to her, as she never thought she would have the chance to connect with him in this way again.
This incident serves as a reminder of the seriousness of nut allergies and the need for increased awareness. We must all be vigilant and take steps to protect those with allergies from potential harm.
