Following the remarkable success of the Amazon film 'The Idea of You', Anne Hathaway and director Michael Showalter are set to collaborate on their next significant venture. Hathaway is all set to star in Amazon MGM Studios' forthcoming feature 'Verity', which Showalter will be at the helm of. The current script is crafted by Nick Antosca, with prior drafts penned by Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, and Will Honley & April Maguire. Sources indicate that this film is slated for a theatrical release.

Producers and Executive Producers

The project boasts an impressive team of producers. Eat the Cat's Antosca and Alex Hedlund, along with Semi-Formal Productions' Showalter and Jordana Mollick, Somewhere Pictures' Hathaway, Heartbones Entertainment's Hoover and Shiny Penny Stacey Sher are on board. Lauren Levine from Heartbones will serve as the executive producer. The film will fall under Semi-Formal Productions' first-look film deal with the studio.

The Story Unfolds

Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer on the verge of financial collapse, receives a life-changing job offer. Jeremy Crawford, the husband of bestselling thriller author Verity Crawford (portrayed by Hathaway), hires Ashleigh to complete the remaining books in a successful series that his wife couldn't finish after a mysterious incident. Upon reaching the opulent Crawford estate, Ashleigh gradually realizes that things are not as they appear. She discovers a secret, unfinished manuscript that might reveal chilling admissions about the family's past. As she ingratiates herself with Jeremy and his young son Crew, she must determine whether Verity's writings are merely lurid works of fiction or a dire warning from a deranged psychopath.This gothic, psychosexual thriller is in the same vein as 'Rebecca' and 'Gone Girl'. It was self-published in 2018 and has since become a phenomenon, being acquired by Grand Central Publishing in 2021. It has spent months on the bestsellers list, selling over 1 million copies in 2023 alone.

Hoover's Success Streak

Colleen Hoover has been on a roll lately. Her other No. 1 bestseller, 'It Ends With Us', starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, was released in theaters in August and has brought in $346 million at the worldwide box office. Since its debut, her properties have gained significant momentum, leading Amazon MGM to quickly move forward with this next project.

Previous Collaborations and Upcoming Works

The film reunites Showalter, Hathaway, and Amazon MGM Studios after the hit romantic comedy 'The Idea of You', also starring Nicholas Galitzine, which attracted nearly 50 million worldwide viewers in its first two weeks on Prime Video, becoming Amazon MGM Studios' No. 1 romantic-comedy debut ever. Showalter and Amazon MGM have also teamed up again on the upcoming holiday comedy 'Oh. What. Fun.', starring Michelle Pfeiffer.For Hathaway, the Oscar winner was last seen starring opposite Jessica Chastain in 'Mother's Instinct'. Other recent works include Vertical's 'She Came to Me', Focus Features' 'Armageddon Time', and an adaptation of 'Eileen', Ottessa Moshfegh's 2015 coming-of-age novel.
