Celebrating Musical Excellence in Old Rochester Regional School District
2025-04-01

The community of Mattapoisett is buzzing with excitement as the nonprofit organization Friends of Old Rochester Music (FORM) continues to enrich the lives of students through its annual concert series. The recent choral and instrumental concerts have not only showcased the exceptional talents of young musicians but also highlighted the district's commitment to nurturing artistic growth.

Building on this success, the upcoming events promise even more thrilling performances. On April 15, "A Night of Jazz" will take the stage at the Old Rochester Regional High School, followed by a Spring Concert on May 14. Additionally, the Junior High School will host its own Spring Concert on May 21. These events are designed to raise funds for scholarships that support aspiring musicians as they transition into higher education. FORM, celebrating its 42nd year, plays a crucial role in expanding opportunities for students beyond what the regular school budget allows. Through private fundraising efforts, the organization provides resources such as special programming, transportation, and musical instruments.

In a forward-thinking initiative, FORM is establishing a local Music Hall of Fame to honor graduates from the 1960s onward who have made significant contributions to the music world. This prestigious recognition will be unveiled during the jazz concert, with an additional gala event scheduled for May 17 at the Marion Music Hall. The community is encouraged to participate in these celebrations while acknowledging the legacy of Angie Vaughn, a beloved chorus director retiring after 27 years of service. Her passion has left an indelible mark on countless students. The district administration praises both the students' dedication and the teachers' efforts, emphasizing the transformative power of music education. As Superintendent Michael S. Nelson notes, these concerts inspire future generations and celebrate the achievements of current artists, ensuring that the tradition of excellence endures well into the future.
