Unraveling Cher's Family Ties through Her Mother's Marriages

Georgia Holt's First Marriage

Cher's mother divorced her fourth husband due to his behavior being "too wild in the bedroom" according to her. In 1957, Holt met real estate magnate Joseph Harper Collins at a party and they quickly got engaged. After marrying, Cher, now 78 years old, along with her mother and sister Georganne, moved into Joe's Beverly Hills mansion. For a while, there was a sense of relaxation as Holt no longer had to worry about financial burdens. "All the stress left her life, as she didn't have to worry about money or work or putting food on the table," Cher recalls. However, this idyllic period didn't last long.Joe was a party animal who loved to drink and was overly wild in the bedroom. When he told Holt that he wanted to be "more experimental sexually and involve other women," Holt, who was quite naïve, couldn't face it. "You know I love you, Joe, but I can't do that," she told him. They tried for a long time to make the marriage work, but the fantasy was over. The marriage lasted less than a year. After the divorce, Collins was a class act as he paid for a brand-new house for them to stay in for six months as part of the settlement while her family got back on their feet. He even sent his housekeeper to help out at their new home.

Holt's Multiple Marriages

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Holt was married seven times throughout her life. Cher's memoir, which spans over 400 pages, is filled with stories from her childhood and rise to stardom.
